Engr. Matthew Tsekiri was born on 28th day of October 1973 in Effurun, Delta State, Nigeria. His late parents until their death were full indigenes of Uvwie, his dad was from Effurun, while his mom was from Ekpan, both of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria.

EARLY LIFE

He had his early education at Igbudu Primary School, Warri, and later attended Delta Steel Company Primary School and Delta Steel Company Technical High School Ovwian-Aladja, Delta State, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1986 and also his WAEC/SSCE Certificate in 1992 respectively.

He has always been a goal-getter from a very young age. He discovered himself early to be an extremely good mathematician because he is very good in calculations and problem-solving equation.

Between the years 1992-1994, upon completion of his Secondary School Education, he attended the renowned Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma in Edo State, Nigeria but he left for the United Kingdom to continue his studies where he got admission in 1995 to study Electrical Engineering in Lambeth College, London and acquired a National Certificate in Engineering (BTECH) in 1997. In 1998, he furthered his education by attending the University of East London, where he studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering and graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) Honors and obtained his Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (BEng) in 2002. After graduation, he came back to Nigeria for his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), at the end of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in March 2004, he returned to the United Kingdom and worked briefly as an IT Consultant in various companies before he went out exploring other opportunities in business.

He got married at a very early age to his wife Mrs Princess Tsekiri and they have three lovely kids together.

Engr. Matthew Tsekiri is currently, a registered member of the NIGERIA SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS (NSE) and also a certified member of Council for Regulation of Engineering of Nigeria (COREN).

HOBBIES

Mato as fondly called by close friends enjoys to play Football. He recounts moments in his early life as a young guy who just moved to London. "I am a very excellent player of football. I would have turned out to be a great footballer in life but at that time, I had to choose between going to school, working or becoming a footballer. I had to make the wise choice of going to school to study with the hopes that one day, I would go back to playing football as a profession, but as God would have it, I injured my knee on one occasion whilst I was playing football with friends and since then it hasn't been the same." I also like to play Lawn tennis which I still do till date, I play golf, and I listen to wide range of music as well.

POLITICAL BACKGROUND

Engr. Matthew Tsekiri is a loving and peaceful man who always takes care and look out for the less privilege.

A PDP chieftain in the Delta State, Engr. Matthew Tsekiri has been a faithful and loyal member of the People’s Democratic Party for many years. He has contested for various political positions. In all these race, he had always put the interest of the party first before his own interest.

He has worked and is still working tirelessly for the party to ensure dividends of democracy, unity mostly amongst party members and indigenes, and victory in all elections. In 2017, during the first tenure Administration of Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, he was appointed as the SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE GOVERNOR ON PROJECT MONITORING. A duty which he carried on so well up until the end of the first tenure of the Executive Governor of Delta state elapsed. In 2019, after the victorious win of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in almost all of their elections, Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa emerged the winner and in this second Administration, Engr. Matthew Tsekiri was appointed as the Commissioner for Science and Technology to the Delta State Government.

Under his administration as the Commissioner for Science and Technology in the Delta State Ministry of Science and Technology, he has been making a lot of impact to ensure that the Information Communications and Technology (ICT) is reawakened.

There has been a lot of Expos and events carried out since his resumption as the Commissioner for Science and Technology. The most recent of all being the “ASABA 2020” THE 1ST AFRICAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT (ASDS) as sustainable development summit that was supposed to hold but due to the current global COVID-19 pandemic.

As the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Engr. Matthew Tsekiri has been able to carve out a new Uvwie by facilitating the ongoing construction of Technical Innovation Centre (TIC) in Uvwie. This HUB will serve as a training center and also as a means of employment for the indigenes of the locality. It is part of the promise made by the Delta state Governor during his campaign to ensure the building of a Stronger Delta Agenda.

The Executive governor of Delta State, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is fulfilling his promise because he has given directives that each local government that makes up Delta state will each have a Technical College and Uvwie local government isn’t left out.

Hon. Engr Matthew Tsekiri is at the forefront of this project to ensure that the directives of the governor is followed to the latter and as such bringing more development to the people of Uvwie and Delta state in general.
